Biography

Neil Banerjee is an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at Western University. He holds an Industrial Research Chair in Advanced Mineral Exploration. His research interests encompass geochemistry and economic geology, with a particular focus on stable isotope biogeochemistry, microbial alteration of modern and ancient oceanic crust, and the evidence of early life on Earth. Dr. Banerjee has made significant contributions to the understanding of the formation and evolution of oceanic crust, as well as geochemical cycling at mid-ocean ridges. He has also investigated the origins and emplacement of ophiolites, which are critical in understanding the geological history of our planet. In addition to his research, he teaches various courses related to Earth sciences, covering topics such as the origin of the solar system, plate tectonics, and geochemistry.
