Biography

Neil studied mathematics at Oxford University and qualified as a Chartered Accountant while working at Price Waterhouse in the UK. He has taught finance for several years at the Groupe École Supérieure de Commerce de Rennes in France. Neil earned his PhD in Finance from INSEAD. Before joining the University of Waterloo as Associate Professor, he worked at the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, where he received Dean's Commendations for Excellent Teaching. He has been recognized with Outstanding Teaching awards at the School of Accounting and Finance and was nominated for the University of Waterloo Distinguished Teaching Award. Neil has been a visiting lecturer at HEC Lausanne, Helsinki School of Economics, and the Dubai campus of the University of Waterloo. His research focuses on Corporate Financing, Executive Compensation and Ownership, Stock Options, Venture Capital, and corporate governance issues. He has published in top-tier finance journals and presented at major finance conferences. Neil has engaged with industry as a qualified Accountant, having served on the Board of Financial Executives International (FEI) Canada and contributed to the CPA Canada Competency Map Development Task Force. His academic contributions have been recognized through various awards, including a paper award from Financial Analysts Journal for his valuation model of Executive Stock Options.
