Biography

Neil Kowall is an Emeritus Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, specializing in Neurology. Having graduated with an MD from the University of British Columbia, he completed postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, followed by a Neurology residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. He has held the position of Assistant Professor at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and has been with VA Boston University since 1992. Kowall's research focuses on human neuroanatomy and neuropathology, using animal models to test novel therapies for neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease. He has served as the Chief of Neurology at the VA Boston Healthcare System and Director of the NIH-funded Boston University Alzheimer’s Disease Center. Throughout his career, he has published over 199 original reports and remains actively involved in mentoring graduate students in Boston University’s Graduate Medical Sciences program.
