Dr. Neil Mclynn

Biography

Neil McLynn is a University Lecturer in Roman History at Corpus Christi College, University of Oxford, where he has been a member of the faculty since April 1, 2007. His research specializes in Late Antiquity, focusing particularly on the intricacies of religious politics during this period. McLynn is currently writing a book on Gregory Nazianzen, a fourth-century churchman whose writings offer insights into the interplay of secular, ecclesiastical, and cultural politics in his provincial town of Nazianzus and the imperial capital of Constantinople. His past academic experiences include teaching at the Faculty of Law at Keio University in Japan, where he instructed students on various subjects including Shakespeare and International Relations. McLynn is actively involved in the Oxford Centre for Late Antiquity, organizing seminars and encouraging research in this vital area. He also covers classical history and the conversions of Augustine in his undergraduate teachings, aiming to bridge ancient and modern historical disciplines.
