Biography

Neil Sarkar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Science and the Department of Health Services, Policy, and Practice at Brown University. He serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Rhode Island Quality Institute, a Regional Health Information Organization. Additionally, he is the Founding Director of the Brown Center for Biomedical Informatics. Dr. Sarkar’s research focuses on integrating unlinked data to generate new insights that inform our understanding of biological and health phenomena. His current projects involve leveraging data for comparative genomic and phenomic studies in complex diseases and developing predictive models for the trajectories of complicated health conditions, including pregnancy complications. His work has been supported by notable organizations such as the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Sarkar has been recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics and serves on the Board of Directors of the American Medical Informatics Association. He also has a significant editorial role in leading biomedical informatics journals, including serving as the Founding Editor-in-Chief of JAMIA Open. Over his career, he has authored and edited numerous publications and has become a prominent figure in the field of biomedical informatics education.
