Biography

Neil Sengupta, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Chicago and a general gastroenterologist specializing in the prevention and management of various gastrointestinal disorders, including colon cancer, diverticular diseases, esophageal disorders, fatty liver disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and gastrointestinal bleeding. He is a nationally recognized expert in gastrointestinal bleeding management and has authored clinical guidelines specific to lower gastrointestinal bleeding. His research interests include antithrombotic medication management and optimal diagnostic testing for hospitalized patients. He serves as the GI section quality improvement director and is involved in initiatives aimed at enhancing colorectal cancer screening quality, such as implementing digital scheduling for colonoscopy patients and computer-aided polyp detection. As a dedicated educator, Dr. Sengupta teaches medical students, residents, and fellows about gastrointestinal pathophysiology, endoscopy, and clinical gastroenterology. He completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in 2015 and his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 2012.
