Neil Tandon earned his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Cooper Union. He has professional experience as a satellite systems engineer at Boeing. In 2013, Neil obtained his PhD in Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics from Columbia University under the supervision of Professor Lorenzo Polvani. Following this, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the group of Professor Paul Kushner at the University of Toronto, partially funded by the Canadian Sea Ice and Snow Evolution (CanSISE) Network. From 2016 to 2018, he served as a postdoctoral fellow at the Climate Research Division of Environment and Climate Change Canada. Neil’s research primarily focuses on climate dynamics. He employs a combination of models, observations, and mathematical analysis to investigate the motions of the Earth’s atmosphere and ocean and their influence on climate. His work has contributed to clarifying the physical processes driving long-term changes in atmospheric circulation and the implications for desertification, cloud abundance, and extreme precipitation, as well as Arctic sea ice motion. Moreover, he explores the variability of ocean circulation and its relationship to various aspects of climate variability.
