Biography

Professor Neil Walker has held the Regius Chair in Public Law at the University of Edinburgh since 2008. His inaugural lecture, 'Out Place Time: Law's Fading Co-ordinates', presented significant themes that he has explored throughout his career. His main area of expertise is constitutional theory, in which he has published extensively on the constitutional dimensions of legal orders at sub-state, state, EU, and global levels. His work has also delved into the relationship between security, legal order, and political community, alongside broader questions concerning legal theory and the substantive dimensions of UK and EU public law. Among his notable publications is the monograph 'Intimations of Global Law' (Cambridge, 2015). Professor Walker has contributed to various governmental inquiries, including an independent review of the final appellate jurisdiction of the Scottish legal system commissioned by the Scottish Government in December 2008. He has held various visiting professorships at esteemed institutions such as the University of Tilburg, University of Columbia, University of Cornell, University of Toronto, and New York University.
