Dr. Nejra Van Zalk

Biography

Nejra Van Zalk is an Associate Professor in Design Psychology at Imperial College London, focusing on the psychological mechanisms that govern human behavior and emotions related to designing products, services, and interventions that benefit mental health. She leads the Design Psychology Lab and directs the Imperial College Human Behaviour Experience (HuBEx) network, which aims to enhance understanding of how psychological factors influence design decisions and their impact on mental well-being. Van Zalk has held various academic positions, including Senior Lecturer and Lecturer roles in Psychology and Human Factors at Imperial College London and the University of Greenwich. Her extensive research experience includes collaboration with institutions such as Cambridge University and Örebro University in Sweden. She earned her PhD, MSc, and BA(Hons) from Örebro University, where her studies concentrated on psychology and human factors within design contexts. Van Zalk's work actively contributes to the intersection of design and mental health, making significant advancements in understanding the implications of design choices on user experience and well-being.
