Nelly Andarawis-Puri joined the faculty of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Cornell University in January 2016. Prior to her current role, she was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York City, where she focused on the clinical translation aspect of her biomechanics research. She obtained her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Columbia University and completed her Ph.D. in Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in Biomechanics under the mentorship of Dr. Louis Soslowsky. Her post-doctoral training in Orthopaedics also took place at the Icahn School of Medicine. Andarawis-Puri’s research focuses on tendon health, biomechanics, and the structural regulatory roles of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in tendinopathy and tendon healing. Her lab employs a multidisciplinary approach, integrating aspects of biomechanics, biology, imaging, and mathematical modeling to explore how ECM impacts tendon health. Her research aims to provide insight into effective therapeutic strategies for tendon repair and regeneration.
