Dr. Nerea Turreira Garcia

Biography

Nerea Turreira Garcia is an interdisciplinary postdoctoral researcher at the University of Copenhagen, specifically in the Department of Food and Resource Economics. Her research primarily focuses on participatory approaches, ethnobotany, indigenous local ecological knowledge, and the use of ICT in relation to climate change adaptation and mitigation. Nerea's current projects explore the socio-economic dynamics related to agroforestry systems and sustainable coffee production, with an emphasis on gender dynamics and access to natural resources. She has extensive fieldwork experience in the Global South, integrating local knowledge into research and development initiatives. Nerea has conducted teaching at both the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the University of Copenhagen, providing guidance to students in courses focused on biocultural diversity, applied ethnobotany, and interdisciplinary research planning. She is fluent in English, Spanish, Basque, and Italian, with basic proficiency in Danish and Greek. Nerea aims to contribute positively to society through her environmental research projects, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing biodiversity monitoring and forest management conservation.
