Dr. McDonald graduated from the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand, and received endodontic education with a Master’s degree in Oral Biology from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. He serves as the Clinical Professor and Division Head at the University of Michigan, where he also directs the Graduate program in Endodontics. His research interests focus on electronic apex locators, instrumentation systems, endodontic surgery, and clinical trials concerning local anesthesia. Dr. McDonald actively engages in clinical research dealing with the ethical and legal aspects of endodontics, particularly in the use of human subjects. He has been recognized as a past president of the Phi Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon and the Maryland State Association of Endodontists. In addition, he is a recipient of the American Association of Endodontists Award of Merit and currently holds the position of Diplomate and Director at the American Board of Endodontics. Dr. McDonald is also a member of the Royal Australasian College of Dentists and has served as a past president of the Michigan Association of Endodontists.
