Dr. Neysun Mahboubi

Biography

Neysun Mahboubi is a faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania's Department of History, where he teaches courses related to Chinese history, law, and policy, and hosts the China Studies podcast. With extensive experience as a Research Scholar at Penn's Center for the Study of Contemporary China, he remains actively involved as a Research Affiliate with the Penn Program on Regulation and is known for hosting the Law & Governance series. His primary academic interests include administrative law, comparative law, and Chinese law, with ongoing research focused on the development of modern Chinese administrative law. Mahboubi has chaired an international committee for the ABA Section of Administrative Law & Regulatory Practice, where he advised the Asia Foundation on administrative procedure reforms in China and actively moderates the Comparative Administrative Law Listserv hosted by Yale Law School. He frequently contributes to discussions on Chinese law and policy developments related to U.S.-China relations across various media platforms, including the CISS Podcast and WBUR's Sinica Podcast, as well as Bloomberg TV and KQED's Forum. Additionally, he has taught at prestigious institutions such as Princeton University, the University of Connecticut School of Law, and Yale Law School, and has served as a trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice and as a law clerk for Judge Douglas P. Woodlock in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
