Andrew Ng is an Associate Professor of Literary Studies and Chair of Postgraduate Studies at the School of Arts and Social Sciences, Monash University Malaysia. He received his PhD from the University of Western Australia, Perth, Australia. His research specializes in Gothic horror narratives, with a particular interest in frameworks comparing the manifestations of related genres in both Eastern and Western contexts. His ongoing research explores the literary tradition of Asian monstrosities, including the Middle Eastern ghoul demon lord, Ravana from the Ramayana, and representations of monstrous femininity in Southeast Asia's bakeneko from Japan. He authored the monograph "Women in Domestic Space: Contemporary Gothic Narratives: House as Subject" published by Palgrave in 2015. Ng also serves on the editorial board of the Anthem Gothic Series and regularly reviews for the journal, ASIATIC: International Journal of Asian Literatures, Cultures and Englishes. His research interests extend to anglophone and sinophone Malaysian literature. His 2011 publication, "Intimating the Sacred: Religion in Anglophone Malaysian Fiction," examines the intersection of literature, religion, and nationalism. In recent years, his studies in horror have expanded to include paranormal media, particularly reality-TV documentaries and graphic novels. He is particularly interested in how media deploy formal conventions and strategies to represent the horrific. Ng teaches various writing units aimed at preparing students for writing careers and has contributed significantly in developing local literature courses at higher learning institutions.
