Dr. Niamh Stephenson

Biography

Dr. Niamh Stephenson is an Associate Professor in the School of Population Health at the University of New South Wales, specializing in the intersections of public health and social change. Her research critically examines how public health is influenced by social and political factors, focusing particularly on HIV-AIDS and global health responses. She is the co-author of several significant works, including 'Analysing Everyday Experience: Social Research and Political Change,' which explores the experiences of HIV positive individuals and challenges dominant narratives in health and illness. Moreover, her publication 'Escape Routes: Control and Subversion in the 21st Century,' critiques the politics surrounding health and labour migration. Stephenson’s ongoing research includes examining biosecurity in the context of pandemic influenza. She is actively involved in various editorial boards, including for 'Culture, Health & Sexuality' and 'Theory & Psychology.'
