Biography

Nicholas Bambos is the Richard W. Weiland Professor in the School of Engineering at Stanford University with a joint appointment in the Departments of Electrical Engineering and Management Science & Engineering. He previously served as the Fortinet Founders Department Chair in Management Science & Engineering from 2016 to 2020. He leads the Computer Systems Performance Engineering Lab at Stanford and has published over 300 peer-reviewed research publications while graduating 40 doctoral students. His research interests include the architecture of high-performance engineering computer systems and networks, with a focus on data analytics in medical health-care. His research spans various domains such as networking, Internet technologies, multimedia streaming, and computer security. He has received numerous accolades including the IBM Faculty Award and the National Young Investigator Award from the National Science Foundation. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences from the University of California at Berkeley in 1989 and has been part of Stanford since 1996. Before joining Stanford, he held positions as an assistant and tenured associate professor at UCLA.
