Dr. Nicholas Cull

Biography

Nicholas J. Cull is a professor in the field of communication, serving as a Global Communication Policy Fellow at the USC Annenberg School for Communication. He is recognized as a pioneer scholar and educator in public diplomacy, having significantly contributed to the study of the historical role of mass communication in foreign policy. Cull received his BA in International History and Politics and his PhD in History from the University of Leeds. He was a Harkness Fellow at Princeton before joining the academic staff at Birmingham University and the University of Leicester, where he became one of the youngest full professors in the UK. In 2005, he joined the University of Southern California, where he established the master’s program in public diplomacy, a program that has garnered national recognition. Cull's involvement with various governments has helped enhance public diplomacy strategies across nations such as the U.S., U.K., Canada, Mexico, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. His publications include significant works on public diplomacy and its foundations in the digital age, demonstrating his extensive expertise in the intersection of history, popular culture, and international communication.
