Biography

Dr. Nicholas Delva is an Adjunct Professor at Queen's University in the School of Medicine, holding an MD obtained in 1975 and FRCPC in 1979. He specializes in general adult psychiatry and currently works with the North Shore Assertive Community Treatment Team in the Addictions Mental Health Services in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington. Dr. Delva has a significant background in administration, teaching, and research. He served as the Psychiatrist-in-Chief at Kingston Psychiatric Hospital from 1998 to 2001 and later held the position of Head of the Department of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University and Chief of the Department of Psychiatry at the Capital District Health Authority from 2006 to 2016, achieving the status of Emeritus Professor at Dalhousie. His academic interests encompass psychopharmacology, electroconvulsive therapy, primary polydipsia, mood disorders, psychosis, headache, history of psychiatry, philosophy, and medical assistance in dying. He is actively involved on editorial boards for the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry and the Journal of ECT.
