Biography

Nicholas Halmi is the Margaret Candfield Fellow at University College, Oxford, specializing in Enlightenment and Romantic literature, particularly poetry. His research encompasses European intellectual history and comparative literature, where he analyzes the intersections of British, German, French, and Italian literary traditions. Halmi has published extensively, including his influential book 'Genealogy of the Romantic Symbol' (2007), which explores the theoretical implications of Romantic symbolization against Enlightenment dualisms. His recent projects focus on historical understanding through aesthetic theory, extending from the early Renaissance to the mid-nineteenth century.
