Nick Hoare is a Pacific History Research Fellow in the Department of Pacific Affairs at the Australian National University (ANU). His broad research interests focus on colonial environmental histories, particularly in the Pacific region, encompassing both Francophone and Anglophone perspectives. He has specialized interests in the phosphate islands of the Pacific and Pacific biography. Nick teaches about Australia’s 19th-20th century presence in Oceania and the Pacific Islands during World War II. He is also keen to supervise honours and Higher Degree Research (HDR) students interested in the field of Pacific history. Before joining the Department of Pacific Affairs, he worked closely with the Oceania Working Party on the Australian Dictionary of Biography, the Pacific Manuscripts Bureau, and the Journal of Pacific History.
