Biography

Nicholas Ling is a Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia. His research primarily focuses on the use of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) techniques to study emulsions, particularly oil/water systems. He has developed new NMR methods for rapid droplet sizing in emulsions and has extensive experience with NMR relaxometry for differentiating oil and water emulsions. His research interests include the application of low field NMR techniques for characterizing micro emulsions, with particular emphasis on enhanced oil recovery applications. Ling has contributed significantly to understanding emulsion formation and stabilization, and he aligns his research with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in aspects related to energy and environmental sustainability. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering from the University of Western Australia, where he conducted research on applications of bench-top low field NMR spectroscopy in oil field emulsions. He also has a Bachelor Degree with Honors in Engineering. Ling has been involved in multiple research projects focusing on tight carbonates and carbon capture methods, further extending his expertise in the energy sector.
