Biography

Nicholas Perez is an Associate Professor at Texas A&M University within the College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on basin tectonics, specifically the integration of field and lab-based techniques in basin analysis, sedimentology, stratigraphy, sediment provenance, chronostratigraphy, and subsidence. He has profound expertise in tectonic problems associated with convergent and extensional settings, having conducted fieldwork in significant regions such as the central Andes (Peru and Bolivia), the Cascade Range (Oregon and Washington), and the Atlas Mountains (Morocco) as well as the Ancestral Rocky Mountains. Perez obtained his Ph.D. in Geological Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin in 2015, where he also completed his Bachelor's degree with Special Honors in 2009. He has received several accolades including the Dean's Distinguished Achievement Faculty Teaching Award in 2020 and the prestigious NSF CAREER award in 2019. Additionally, he was a NSF Graduate Research Fellow from 2011 to 2015.
