Biography

Nick Achilleos received his PhD from the Australian National University and specializes in theoretical and observational studies of magnetic fields around compact stars. He briefly worked at the University of Montreal before moving to University College London (UCL) for a postdoctoral position in planetary science. At UCL, he developed a global model of Jupiter to support infrared observations in the planetary atmospheres group. After six years at UCL, he transitioned to the industry as a software developer for Logica, working primarily in the Space division on onboard software for satellite control. In 2002, he joined Imperial College London as a Science Planner Operations Engineer, managing the magnetometer instrument onboard the Cassini spacecraft. He contributed to scientific studies during Cassini's arrival at Saturn in 2004, notably examining the planet's magnetospheric boundaries. Returning to UCL in 2007, he took a lectureship in the Physics department and contributes to the Atmospheric Physics Laboratory and the Centre for Planetary Science, continuing collaboration with Cassini/Saturn scientists on global models for giant planets.
