Biography

Nick Bampos is an Assistant Director of Research at the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge. His research interests encompass several areas, predominantly focusing on conventional organic and biological inorganic chemistry. He employs nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy as a principal tool for the structural and dynamic characterization of a diverse range of compounds. Bampos's work involves the rational design and synthesis of multimetal supramolecular systems in collaboration with Professor J.K.M. Sanders. He has developed large, complex molecules that mimic specific properties inherent in nature. His construction methodology employs both covalent and non-covalent linkages utilizing metal-ligand interactions with elements such as Zinc, Ruthenium, Nickel, and Tin. In his research, he explores the characterization and manipulation of molecules at the atomic level, collaborating with researchers from other departments to visualize single complex molecules on substrate surfaces using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). His efforts also include the synthesis and characterization of molecules bound to solid supports that exhibit both solid and liquid properties, aimed at generating sensors and molecular switches in collaboration with Professor M. J. Gunter from the University of New England, Australia.
