Biography

Nick Chater joined Warwick Business School in 2010, holding chairs in psychology at both Warwick and UCL. His research focuses on the cognitive and social foundations of rationality, with applications in business and public policy. He has (co-)written more than a hundred research papers and six books. His research has been recognized with numerous awards, including the British Psychological Society's Spearman Medal in 1996 and the Experimental Psychology Society Prize in 1997. In 2023, he received the David E Rumelhart Prize for lifetime achievement from the Cognitive Science Society. His book, 'Mind Flat,' won the American Association of Publishers PROSE Award in 2019 for its impact on clinical psychology. Chater is a fellow of the British Academy and has served as a co-founder of the research consultancy Decision Technology. Furthermore, he has been a member of the advisory board for the Behavioural Insight Team, popularly known as the 'Nudge Unit,' and served on the UK government's Climate Change Committee. Chater has contributed as a resident scientist on the BBC Radio 4 show 'Human Zoo' over eight series.
