Biography

Nick Davis researches and teaches in the areas of narrative film analysis, feminist gender studies, queer theory, and 20th/21st-century American literature, while maintaining an active role in Chicago's movie culture through film reviewing for wide audiences. His book, 'Desiring-Image: Gilles Deleuze and Contemporary Queer Cinema', theorizes new models for queer cinema in the historical wake of HIV/AIDS, basing its formal conceptual principles on Deleuzian philosophies of cinema, desire, and collective becomings. He has published essays on various films and filmmakers, such as Julie Dash and Alfonso Cuarón, and has extensive experience as a Contributing Editor for Film Comment Magazine. He regularly teaches graduate seminars on queer theory and queer cinema, alongside a range of undergraduate courses. His research further includes forthcoming work on Mike Mills’s film '20th Century Women'. He has received the Northwestern Teaching Professorship, the university's highest award for distinguished teaching and curricular innovation.
