Biography

Nick Feamster is the Neubauer Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Chicago, where he serves as the Faculty Director of the Research Data Science Institute. He was previously a full professor in the Computer Science Department at Princeton University, where he directed the Center for Information Technology Policy (CITP). Before his tenure at Princeton, he held a full professorship in the School of Computer Science at Georgia Tech. Nick earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from MIT in 2005, after obtaining S.B. and M.Eng. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT in 2000 and 2001, respectively. His early career included pivotal roles at Looksmart and Damballa, where he contributed to the development of a web crawler and a botnet-detection algorithm, respectively. An avid distance runner, Nick has completed multiple marathons including the Boston, New York, and Chicago marathons, as well as the Comrades Marathon in South Africa. His research focuses on the application of computer algorithms to data-centric models, human-computer interaction, and understanding the implications of emerging computational technologies.
