Biography

Adjunct Senior Research Fellow Nick Hayward has over 35 years of industry experience in technical leadership roles within major diversified exploration and mining companies. He is currently engaged in part-time research consulting, serving as Director of PredictOre and previously as Director of Global Project Generation at Teck Resources Ltd. In this capacity, he provided leadership in generating new opportunities for greenfield discoveries, primarily focusing on copper, zinc, gold, and nickel development strategies. Nick's expertise includes strategic planning, project generation, and target testing, with significant previous roles including Global Zinc Specialist and Regional Chief Geoscientist across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. His academic background includes a PhD from James Cook University, focused on orogenic processes and mineralisation history, and a Bachelor of Science with first-class honours from the University of Melbourne. Nick is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists and a member of the Society of Economic Geologists. His current research interests encompass a mineral systems approach to understanding large ore deposits, predictive structural targeting, and geospatial analysis in relation to ore systems.
