Dr. Nick Lawrence

Biography

Nick Lawrence is an Associate Professor in the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies at the University of Warwick. His academic interests span American literature, particularly from the nineteenth century to the present, with a focus on poetry and poetics. He engages with environmental approaches to world literary studies and global modernism, while also exploring critical theory through the lens of the early Frankfurt School. Lawrence is actively involved in the Sustainability Spotlight Initiative at Warwick and convenes the Master's program in Environmental Humanities. His current research includes a forthcoming monograph that theorizes the intersection of world literature and capitalism in the context of the Anthropocene. Additionally, his recent projects delve into the ecological roots of critical theory and examine cultural prefigurations of post-capitalist futures. He teaches various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in his department, supervising multiple PhD candidates in topics related to environmental literature and poetics.
