Biography

Nick Sahinidis is the Butler Family Chair Professor at the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering and the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Georgia Tech. His current research activities interface computer science and operations research, focusing on applications in engineering and scientific areas, specifically global optimization mixed-integer nonlinear programs, including theory, algorithms, and software. Additionally, he addresses informatics problems in chemistry and biology, as well as process energy systems engineering. Sahinidis has served on the editorial boards of leading journals and held numerous positions within the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), including Chair of the INFORMS Optimization Society. His accolades include the NSF CAREER award, INFORMS Computing Society Prize, MOS Beale-Orchard-Hays Prize, Computing Chemical Engineering Award, and the Constantin Carathéodory Prize, along with the National Award Gold Medal from the Hellenic Operational Research Society. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and a fellow of AIChE and INFORMS.
