Biography

Nick Talbot is an academic with a focus on integrative cardiorespiratory physiology, particularly the pulmonary vascular and respiratory responses to hypoxia. He has a keen interest in the role of hypoxia inducible factor (HIF) pathways in regulating these responses and the interaction between cellular iron and oxygen homeostasis in cardiorespiratory control. His research also includes the pathophysiology of COVID-19 pneumonia and the exploration of novel non-invasive methods for assessing lung function in respiratory disease. Talbot's work encompasses both basic science and interventional clinical research studies, reflecting a particular interest in translational physiology. In addition to his research, Talbot is actively involved in teaching at both departmental and college levels. He teaches respiratory integrative physiology and serves on the course committee for the Applied Physiology and Pharmacology course for preclinical medical students. As a College Lecturer at St Peter’s College and University College, he is responsible for teaching systems physiology to preclinical students and has been recognized with the Teaching Excellence Award from the Medical Sciences Division in 2019.
