Biography

Nicklaus Giacobe is an Associate Teaching Professor and Coordinator of the B.S. Cybersecurity Analytics Operations Point of Contact at the NSA Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education at Penn State University. He earned a B.S. and a Ph.D. in Information Sciences and Technology from Penn State, and his research mainly focuses on cybersecurity education. Giacobe has developed the Polylab system, which utilizes cryptographic techniques to create unique parameters for lab exercises, thereby generating tailored experiences for each student. He teaches various courses in cybersecurity and information technology, including Cyber Defense Technologies and Network Security. He has also developed online courses aimed at achieving learning objectives for both residential and World Campus students. Prior to his academic career, Giacobe had extensive experience as a network and systems administrator, where he managed large computer networks and systems across various academic departments. He has collaborated with students on capstone projects that involve real-world cybersecurity incidents, enhancing their practical and analytical skills. In addition to his teaching and research responsibilities, Nick serves as the Course Committee Chairman for specific cybersecurity courses, demonstrating his commitment to academic excellence and innovation in the field.
