Biography

Niclas Hagen is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Gothenburg, with a primary focus on the social and cultural aspects of science, particularly in the biomedical sciences. He has an academic background in genetics, molecular biology, sociology, and political science, culminating in a master's degree. Hagen began his PhD studies in ethnology in 2009 and completed his dissertation, 'Modern Genes – Body, Rationality, Ambivalence,' in 2013. The thesis investigates the linkage between everyday life and genetic disease, comprising four ethnographic investigations primarily focused on individuals affected by Huntington's disease. From 2013 to 2016, he worked on the interdisciplinary project 'Treatments of the Future,' which explored RNA editing treatments for Huntington's disease. Currently, he is involved in a multidisciplinary project aimed at understanding how digital technologies are transforming the production of scientific knowledge, funded by the Marianne Marcus Wallenberg foundation. Hagen has a strong background in interdisciplinary research and has served as the research coordinator for various initiatives at Gothenburg University, including the Centre for Digital Humanities.
