Biography

Niclas Svensson is an Associate Professor and Head of Unit at Linköping University, with over 25 years of experience in the field of environmental systems analysis. His research encompasses resource efficient biogas solutions, management of urban resource flows, and the study of emerging concepts in large technical systems. He specializes in life cycle assessment and has a strong focus on developing studies related to resource efficient biogas solutions, investigating the technosphere, hibernating materials in cities, and the potential of recovering cycled materials from landfills for societal use. As a project leader, he oversees quantitative system studies and has gained a reputation as a competence centre in biogas studies. His recent research has shifted toward sustainable management of sub-surface infrastructure and examining the role of waste incineration within the circular economy. In addition to his research responsibilities, he teaches courses in Industrial Ecology and Environmental Systems Analysis, and serves as the coordinator for the Master’s programme in Sustainability Engineering Management. In recognition of his teaching excellence, he was awarded “This year’s pedagogue” by the Philosophical faculty at LiU in 2011.
