Biography

Nico Dam is an Associate Professor and Chair of Laser Diagnostics in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His key areas of expertise include optics, lasers, high-resolution spectroscopy, fuel technology, atomic physics, and molecular physics. He teaches subjects related to experimentation in mechanical engineering, optical diagnostics in combustion and fluid flow, and physics measurement methods. His current research focuses on Raman spectroscopy, spray diagnostics, and temperature field measurement. He employs optical diagnostics methodologies to gain insights into various aspects of combustion processes. Nico Dam obtained his PhD in Physics, specializing in Experimental Molecular Physics, from the University of Nijmegen, where he researched collisional energy transfer in small molecules. After his doctoral studies, he worked on metal cluster spectroscopy as a postdoctoral researcher at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland and later became a KNAW fellow returning to Nijmegen. Since 1995, he has been involved in the development of laser techniques for quantitative 2-D visualization of both reactive and non-reactive flows, first at Radboud University Nijmegen and then at TU/e since 2008.
