Nico F. Declercq is a Professor at the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, where he is known for his extensive work in the fields of acoustics and dynamics. His research primarily focuses on ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation (NDE) and the physical properties of materials, employing a wide range of frequencies for investigations. He has made significant contributions to the understanding of acoustic interactions with various materials, including periodic structures and composite materials. Declercq's laboratory emphasizes interdisciplinary research and the development of new materials with immediate industrial applications. He has led studies exploring the physics of sound interaction with engineered materials, and he has collaborated with robotics teams on NDE of large structures. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Physics from Ghent University, Belgium, and has previously served as a Postdoctoral Fellow supported by the Belgian National Science Foundation. Since joining Georgia Tech in 2006, he has advanced from Assistant Professor to Full Professor and has received numerous awards for his contributions to both teaching and research in acoustics.
