Biography

Nico Randeraad is an expert in 19th and 20th century European history, with a particular focus on the early Italian unitary state, Dutch local and provincial government, and international statistical congresses. His interests also extend into the realm of digital humanities and social history. He has published extensively in these areas, demonstrating a deep familiarity with historical pathways and methodologies. As a tutor in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Maastricht University, he has taught a variety of modules within the European Studies and Arts & Culture programs, at both BA and MA levels. His academic career began with a history degree from the Free University Amsterdam, followed by a PhD from the European University Institute in Florence in 1992. Randeraad has acted as an evaluator for national and international research programs and has a rich history in academia, including post-doctoral and lecturer roles at various Dutch universities, and co-directing the Netherlands Centre for Contemporary History at the University of Groningen from 1999 to 2002. Since 2002, he has been affiliated with Maastricht University, where he currently serves as the director of Tracé - Limburgs Samenlevingsarchief.
