Dr. Nico Ravanilla

Biography

Nico Ravanilla is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of California, San Diego. His research spans political economy, governance, and policy analysis, with a focus on improving governance and the quality of elected government in developing democracies. Ravanilla employs methods such as randomized experiments and searches for natural experiments to answer causal questions relevant to his research. He is particularly focused on the Southeast Asian region, especially the Philippines, and broadly applies theoretical insights and policy lessons from his research to other developing countries. Ravanilla previously completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center at Stanford University.
