Nico Roos is an associate professor in the Department of Advanced Computing Sciences at Maastricht University. He has a background in electrical engineering and computer science and earned his PhD in 1991, focusing on handling inconsistent and uncertain information. Since joining DACS in 1995, he has coordinated the Agent Technology group and led the Robots and Agents Interaction research group, known as Robotlab. In 2017, he initiated the Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) research theme alongside Pieter Collins. His main research interests include Knowledge Representation, Reasoning, Argumentation Learning, and Model-Based Diagnosis. From 2008 to 2010, Roos served as the Director of Studies for the bachelor's program in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, as well as for the master's programs in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Decision Making. He has held numerous leadership roles within the university, including chair of the faculty council and member of several committees, such as the selection committee for NWO grants. Currently, he is involved in a collaborative bachelor program in Brain Science.
