Nico obtained a Bachelor's degree with Honours in Biotechnology from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, from 2010 to 2014. He then completed a Master's degree in Cellular Molecular Biology from 2015 to 2016 and a PhD in Cellular Molecular Biology from 2016 to 2020. During his PhD, Nico worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul from December 2020 to August 2022. In 2022, he joined the Chooi Lab as a Research Associate. His research focuses on the molecular, genetic, and biochemical basis of secondary metabolite biosynthesis in fungi, aiming to develop methods to improve secondary metabolite yields in heterologous hosts. Prior to joining Chooi Lab, he concentrated on cellular molecular biology of entomopathogenic fungi, particularly emphasizing secondary metabolite biosynthetic pathways.
