Nico Wulffraat is a professor of pediatric Rheumatology in the Department of Pediatrics at the University Medical Center, Utrecht, Netherlands. He obtained his MD and PhD in 1987 from the Free University Hospital Amsterdam. Trained as a pediatrician from 1988 until 1993 in Utrecht, he was a fellow in pediatric immunology and rheumatology from 1993 to 1995 at WKZ. Since 1995, he has been working as a consultant in pediatric immunology-rheumatology. He became head of his subunit in 2010, and from 1997 to 2004, he coordinated pediatric allogeneic and autologous stem cell transplantations for immune deficiencies, metabolic disorders, and autoimmune diseases. He is a principal investigator in initiated trials for vaccinations in children with rheumatic diseases, including MMR, HPV Men C, prevention of MTX side effects, and application of mesenchymal stem cells for refractory GvHD and JIA. He also coordinates the FP7 consortium focused on pharmacovigilance of biologics used in JIA.
