Biography

Nicol Turner Lee is a senior fellow at the Governance Studies and director of the Center for Technology Innovation at the Brookings Institution, a global think tank headquartered in Washington, D.C. She is also the founder of the AI Equity Lab housed within the Center for Technology Innovation. Dr. Turner Lee's research focuses on equitable access to technology both in the U.S. and abroad, particularly in identifying and mitigating online biases in artificial intelligence systems. She has authored the book "Digitally Invisible: The Internet is Creating a New Underclass" (Brookings Press, 2024) and has contributed to numerous publications on technology and telecom issues. In 2022, she was recognized for her distinguished career contributions at the annual conference of the American Sociological Association. Dr. Turner Lee holds a B.A. from Colgate University and a Ph.D. from Northwestern University in Sociology.
