Biography

Nicola Harris, originally from New Zealand, completed her undergraduate studies and PhD thesis before moving to Switzerland in 2002 as a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Nobel Laureates Hans Hengartner and Rolf Zinkernagel at the Institute of Experimental Immunology, University of Zurich. In July 2005, she joined ETH Zurich as an Assistant Professor and in August 2009, became an Assistant Professor at the Swiss Vaccine Research Institute, part of the Department of Life Sciences at EPFL. In 2012, she received the prestigious ERC starting grant giving her a path towards becoming a tenured Professor at EPFL. In 2018, she transitioned to the Department of Immunology at Monash University, where she became an NHMRC Senior Research Fellow and co-leads the Mucosal Immunology Research Group. Her research focuses on understanding the immunological, microbiological, and physiological mechanisms underpinning health and disease, particularly in the airways and gastrointestinal tract.
