Biography

Nicola Livingstone is a Professor in Real Estate, based in Urban Studies. Prior to joining the University of Glasgow in 2023, Nicola worked at the Bartlett School of Planning, UCL, and Heriot-Watt University. She completed her PhD in 2011, with a thesis exploring urban form and charity retailing from a Marxist perspective. Nicola has published widely in the fields of real estate and urban studies, focusing on projects that explore investment market trends, housing densification, the evolution of office markets during the coronavirus pandemic, and issues related to food insecurity caused by charity efforts. She has collaborated on various projects including work for RICS and the BA/Leverhulme Investment Property Forum. Nicola also engages with colleagues at the University of Toronto, where she is a Visiting Professor. Her research is interdisciplinary and examines the intersection of real estate, planning, governance, and critical social science, interrogating how built environments affect lived experiences.
