Biography

Nicola Navone is an architect with a degree from ETH Zurich and a PhD from Université Paris Saclay. He serves as Deputy Director and interim Director of Archivio del Moderno starting March 1, 2025. He teaches at the Accademia di architettura di Mendrisio of the Università della Svizzera italiana and is a member of the PhD program 'Architecture. Innovation Heritage' at the Università degli Studi di Roma Tre. His research interests focus on the analysis of the reconstruction of professional relationships among Ticinese architects, considering historical contexts and periods, in particular the early careers of notable architects such as Domenico Fontana and Francesco Borromini. Navone has extensively studied the interactions between Ticinese architects and craftsmen in Russia, particularly in relation to the dissemination of Italian architectural culture during the 18th and 19th centuries. His academic contributions include numerous publications on contemporary Ticinese architecture. Navone's courses at the Accademia di Architettura reflect his research focus, and he has worked as a visiting professor at Università IUAV Venice during the spring of 2013. He also participated in the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) research project 'Architecture Canton Ticino, 1945-1980' from 2017 to 2019, with an extension in 2021.
