Biography

Professor Shelton is the Head of the Health Social Surveys Research Group and Deputy Head of the Research Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at University College London. Her research focuses on health geography and health surveillance, utilizing large and complex health data sets to measure health outcomes. She has particular interests in the UK Census, alcohol consumption, physical activity, and the intersections of place, work, health, and wellbeing. Currently, she serves as the Principal Investigator for CeLSIUS, the Centre for Longitudinal Study Information User Support for the ONS Longitudinal Study, overseeing the project from 2020-2025. Additionally, she is the Principal Investigator for the Census Innovation project and was the founding Director of the BSc in Population Health from 2013-2019 and the MSci in Population Health Sciences set to start in 2024. Over her career, Professor Shelton has held various academic roles at UCL and other institutions, contributing significantly to public health research and education.
