Nicola Smith is an Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales in the School of Biomedical Sciences. She completed her undergraduate training in pharmacology and biochemistry at the University of Melbourne, where she earned First Class Honours in 2002. She began her PhD at Baker Heart Research Institute, focusing on the role of EGFR transactivation in angiotensin II receptor-induced left ventricular hypertrophy. After returning to Australia in 2011, she joined the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute and established a research program centered on orphan receptors in cardiac physiology. Since joining UNSW in 2019, Nicola has created the Orphan Receptor Laboratory and teaches various pharmacology courses. She has made significant contributions to her field, serving on peer review panels for major funding agencies and committees, and is the recipient of several awards. In recognition of her work, she has been appointed as an Associate Professor.
