Nicolas Younes is an engineer and geospatial remote sensing scientist who is passionate about Earth Observation and education, focusing on understanding spatial-temporal changes in Australian forests. He works on local, continental, and global-scale projects that aim to deepen the understanding of vegetation phenology and flammability through the use of remote sensing technologies. Currently, he is deeply involved in the development of the OzFuel satellite mission, which is specifically designed to monitor the flammability of eucalyptus forests. This project aims to advance Australia’s space industry. His work spans across various technological domains, including the use of hyperspectral sensors and machine learning for data analysis and biochemical analysis of volatile components in eucalyptus trees. Nicolas holds a degree in Environmental Engineering, a Master’s degree in Oil and Gas Exploration Production, a Master’s degree in Natural Resource Management, and a PhD in Earth Environmental Sciences. His research interests include vegetation phenology, Oil Palm monitoring, forest loss, and environmental economics.
