Nicolas Dumont is an Assistant Professor at the School of Rehabilitation at the Université de Montréal and a researcher at the CHU Sainte-Justine Research Center. His research interests focus on various muscle pathologies and their effects on satellite cells, a population of adult muscle stem cells responsible for muscle regeneration. Recent work highlights that the regenerative capacity of satellite cells is deficient in Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a serious genetic disease causing progressive and irreversible muscle tissue deterioration. His laboratory studies how extrinsic factors, such as inflammation and fibrosis, affect muscle regeneration in both physiological and pathological contexts. Ultimately, these research projects aim to identify therapies that can enhance the regenerative capacity of satellite cells in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and other myopathies, transforming this degenerative disease into a manageable chronic condition.
