Biography

Nicolas Fay earned his PhD in Psychology in 2000 from the University of Glasgow, Scotland. He worked for two years as a postdoctoral fellow at the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh, followed by two years as a research scientist at the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute in Kyoto, Japan. In 2004, he joined the faculty at the School of Psychological Science at the University of Western Australia (UWA). His research primarily focuses on social influence, examining how people's thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are influenced by others, groups, and institutions in society. He investigates various methods to understand human social influence, including laboratory experiments and computational simulations. His current research topics include informational influence, interpersonal influence, group influence, cultural influence, and strategies to combat misinformation. Fay also engages with projects aimed at developing cost-effective interventions to address information warfare and studying the origins of language among Indigenous sign languages of Australian Aboriginal Peoples.
